In 2007, a set of fake nude photos of actress K. R. Vijaya were circulated online before being taken down from YouTube by the website's owner, a YouTube user named Google1. The pictures showed a woman who looked like Vijaya sunbathing nude. A senior Tamil Nadu police officer said that the only way to identify the woman was if her fingerprints matched those found on her films or films displayed at her exhibitions, but as none existed as yet they wouldn't be able to positively identify her as she had not been arrested yet and the special investigations branch was still investigating whether she was involved in any old high profile cases or wanted for anything else. Meanwhile, the University Grants Commission (UGC) which has made identity cards mandatory for college students to attend classes, was unaware that Vijaya had a duplicate in circulation in the market. The CID decided to track down the source of these pictures in order to find out if Vijaya had been a victim of a crime. They suspected that since the images were circulating in Tamil Nadu, they were somehow linked with actress Vijayashanti's controversial statements about stalking and harassment by fans. The speculation was strengthened when the photo was found to be posted at the computer of a director who was allegedly in debt to Vijaya after she had refused to work with him. The CID questioned Vijaya and her manager, who said that the pictures were fake and that they had been stolen from a friend's storage. They also checked with all major photo agencies whose databases were accessed by Vijaya's company and found no record of the pictures. The CID then discovered that Google1, the user uploading these images on YouTube, had uploaded 500 other such photos of other actresses such as Thulasi Nair and Sangeetha Shankar in foul language. It was revealed that this was done by a 21-year-old film student, Manishkumar B. H. of Chennai, who while he claimed to have nothing to do with the photos, had received an award for Best Poster Design in 2006 for designing Vijaya's publicity material. It also transpired that he had made the images available on request to the actress' distributor during the release of her films "Naalai" (1995) and "Satham Podathey" (1996). The CID decided not to file charges against Vijaya nor did Vijayashanti file charges against Manishkumar B. H., who was arrested after investigations were completed and released on bail after three days. Vijaya later released a statement claiming that she had willingly posed for the fake images. She also added that she would be filing a criminal complaint against Manish Kumar B. H., who had stolen her photos and distributed them on the internet, and against the five other people, including her manager, whom she accused of trying to extort money from her by making these photos public. The Tamil Nadu government's CID director S. Nandagopal said that they will now focus on searching for such woman in all states where Vijaya has worked as an actress to see if any such photos of her exist. cfa1e77820
